Yoga is a 4000 yr. old tradition birthed in India. It has become popular in the west because it helps us endure life’s endless demands with grace. I took on yoga just for that reason. It brought joy, wisdom, and love into my life during troubled times. For that I am forever grateful. Ten years later I am surprised to be in love with teaching yoga still.
It has been an adventure teaching. Each day I am humbled through the practice of yoga. It’s not just about the physical postures. Postures are not things to perfect, just as people are not made to be perfect. They are tools to accept oneself, and to find ones potential: to help us take a new challenging step.
I try to carry yoga with me in every situation, and it’s not always a cake walk. The teachings of yoga: about peace and mindfulness don’t exist casually–life can be a challenge! Life is complex. Everyday is a challenge that can throw us off track and everyday we have a choice. We can’t be reminded enough about what it means to be kind, centered, and mindful. Without a discipline… without the physical purity we get through -exercise, movement, meditation, and a good diet; without respect for ourselves and others, life can catch up to you in a way, simply put– that doesn’t feel good. It’s as if there are many curtains and walls to unfold to know the richness that life truly has to offer. Yoga is an invaluable tool for achieving the best in life. Yoga is not a belief system, it’s useful knowledge that simply works.
