Restorative Yoga
Feb. 2oth Saturday 1 – 3pm (Every third Saturday of the month) at JamSpace in the Sunset District in San Francisco
This is a great class to take if you want to learn stress releasing techniques and be able to take them home. Sometimes you need something more than the common remedy – of exercise, hot baths, massage, etc. Restorative yoga taps into relaxation like nothing else does and it costs less than a massage.
The great thing about this class is you’ll learn how to use a few household items to create a spa like treatment at home. Bring at least three thick towels, or 5 smaller ones, a blanket to cover you and a pillow. If you don’t have a lot of towels bring a couple of blankets. The idea is to let you explore and experience Restorative Yoga without having to buy a bunch of props. Use whatever you already have, and the creativity is endless with this – the more you learn. If you have a yoga block, mat, strap bring them. If not don’t, don’t worry, as long as you have a minimum of two blankets or 3 towels you’ll be good to go. You can get a hold of me for more creative ideas. If you have to travel by muni we can provide props for you. Do not let the props stop you from coming!!
Here’s a secret: it takes a minimum of 15 minutes of uninterrupted deep relaxation to restore the nervous system. You have heard of “fight or flight” mode, right? Well, that’s a term for a revved up nervous system, and it varies from mild to highly revved. Whatever amount of stress from work, too much caffeine, life challenges, restorative yoga takes the shock out of your system and keeps you at ground zero. It’s amazing!

Yoga For A Healthy Back
Starts March 11th at JamSpace in SF Thursday 6pm – 8pm
I am offering a specialty yoga class called “yoga for a healthy back”. This class is designed to help with back trouble, but not limited to back issues. It’s very therapeutic, yet challenges and helps you develop discipline in your yoga practice. If you want to improve your form and deepen your understanding of alignment, or new to yoga and want to learn good form this class will help. We also will work deep in the hips, and help neck issues. I have been offering this series for four years now and have had wonderful results. Read below for more details….
About the class:
~Training from Structural Yoga Therapy, Anusara, Iyengar and Restorative yoga are the backbone of this course.
~The course will methodically build upon each class. Attention will be given to postural alignment and healthy ways to increase flexibility in the hips and shoulders.
~Taking care of the back while in pain and strengthening the back while free from pain
will both be addressed. (1st thursday of the month is release/ 2nd is strength)
~The class will integrate work I’ve experienced in previous workshops. Working on structural problems with the back helps relieve strain and discomfort of the neck.
~The breath will be used to help relax surrounding muscles in areas of soreness and tension as a way to heal.
~Students of all levels are welcome, students with chronic back pain are highly recommended for this course. This class is not recommended for those with spinal injuries or acute pain (I have had good results with herniated discs).

In their words…”Back to Earth Yoga Backpacking Adventures are a unique combination of inspiration, excitement, relaxation, & rejuvenation. While participants experience the rigor of backpacking through the mountains & the challenge of practicing yoga outdoors, they also melt into the sounds of nature & relax in the glow of a peaceful sunset. As practicing yoga outdoors is often a departure for those who are used to the level floor and temperature control of a studio, these adventures introduce people to the way yoga was first practiced five thousand years ago by ancient civilizations. These journeys focus on helping people to connect more to themselves, the Earth, and community through the family we create during our time in the wilderness. We prepare healthy and delicious organic meals, play music, gaze at starry skies and learn about the history of the land. Most of all, we get away from the noise, clutter, and distracting energy of the urban environment, allowing us to experience yoga not just as a form of exercise, but more fully, as a way to live our lives.”
Back to Earth is a pretty wonderful little company that amongst many things, takes the profit they make from these trips and uses it to take under privileged children out in the wilderness.

I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me. - Isaac Newton
