Jeanie is known for her empathetic and caring style of teaching. These natural abilities allow her students to comfortably learn new ways of moving, for better health, fitness, and best of all –compassion.
Jeanie has been teaching and studying yoga for over 11 years. She teaches Vinyasa Flow classes (which incorporates movement with the breath) and in styles similar to Iyengar classes (alignment oriented). Her private yoga sessions tend to be like mini-physical therapy sessions which help her students strengthen where they are weak and release where they are tight. She has trained with Judith Hanson Lasater, who is known as the “Queen of Restorative Yoga”, and is also a Physical Therapist. For Jeanie, Judith was a source of knowledge for anatomy and advanced yoga techniques in the tradition of Iyengar. In Jeanie’s classes, many modalities are used to captivate the student’s desire to learn more about their unique body and grow in ways they could not have imagined.
Jeanie currently resides in beautiful Sebastopol an hour away from San Francisco, and teaches in both places. Her innovative style of teaching will help you realize – yoga is not just about the poses on the mat, but what those poses bring to your life! Expect to bend, grow, strengthen, and be challenged in positive ways
ABOUT JEANIE’S CLASSES
My classes are eclectic and innovative derived from the styles and techniques of Vinyasa, Iyengar, Anusara, Restorative, Physical Therapy, Yoga Structural Therapy and Pilates. I am a Certified Restorative Trainer through Judith Hanson Lasater. My goal is to bring greater understanding of oneself, body-mind education, and awareness to her students’ practice.
SUNDAY 9AM-10:30
VINYASA & RESTORATIVE BLEND: Forming a yoking bond with rhythmic breath and movement is the foundation of Vinyasa Yoga classes. This means sweat(release toxins), consistent movement, and mental release. It’s challenging work. I carefully weave therapeutics & restoratives into challenging but adaptable Vinyasa classes. If it was just Vinyasa -one might push too hard. Which can lead to overworking the muscles. With restoratives and therapeutics one is asked to nurture themselves and slow down. This helps the mind to relax, become clear, and focused. At the same time one is strengthening the body and dropping the nervous system down a notch. The daunting task of letting go of non-important mental clatter in order to be present is one of the many benefits of yoga. I teach this style of yoga at 9 am on Sunday’s in Sebastopol, and 1:15pm every other Thursday in San Francisco.
TUESDAY 7PM – 8:30
FOUNDATIONAL POSES AND YOGA FOR BACK CARE: A slower, yet more disciplined style derived from Iyengar. Restorative, therapeutic, and innovative approaches are taken. This class will teach you correct alignment, and will help you have more skill in faster flow classes. Taking care of back trouble also helps the hips and neck. I teach this class Tuesday nights at Yoga Studio Ganesha.
TUESDAY 5:30PM – 6:55, Friday 4:30PM – 6
VINYASA FLOW CLASSES: Vinyasa is movement through breath which is described under Sunay’s class. With one exception, no restorative on Friday’s it’s all sweat!
PRIVATE STUDENTS: I have worked with cancer patients, obesity, physical handicaps (such as missing limbs), aids patients, elderly students, arthritis, pregnancy, back and neck trouble, and computer related problems– amongst many things. My goal is to bring wellness and balance into the life of my students.
INFLUENCES: I’ve learned from many great teachers, but especially Judith Hanson Lasater and Karl Erb. They have taught me more about Yoga than I can thank them for. Buddhist philosophy –about kindness and steadying the mind has influenced my teaching as well.
I continue to learn every day so I can offer more freedom in my students movements: thus more freedom in their lives. –Our relationship to our movements may be the key that unfolds the beauty of our potential.

Hi,
I took your yoga for a healthy back course two years ago. I was amazed at how much the discipline of yoga helped me. However, so much time has gone by, and I do not practice regularly. I am trying to find another class like the one you offered, but am just timid about trying new teachers. Any chance you will be teaching in San Francisco again (yoga for healthy backs?)
Best,
Jon
Hi Jon,
Good to hear from you!
Actually I am teaching “Yoga For A Healthy Back” right now. I have one class left, and might have some space. Send me your email, or call.
I will also be teaching the same course in February. I usually teach in the Inner Sunset. But am looking for a bigger space, because of the popularity of this class.
I am also working on a video for this specific back series.
Best wishes,
Jeanie

Jeanie,
You’re the best! I loved your classes when you taught at the Stonestown YMCA back in the day, and my husband and I loved your Yoga for a Healthy Back! But I will never foget having you take my cousins and I through the most gorgeous and centering yoga session the morning of my wedding — a true gift! Can’t wait for the December workshop!
